PAPA remains committed to the safety and well-being of all of our students. This includes the protection of student educational records, FERPA. We will never allow unscheduled guests to come to campus or pull out any student without explicit permission from the parent/guardian. Thank you for bringing your ID when you pick up your child early.
It’s time to review PAPA’s snow day practice. Given the diverse locations of our students, staff, and parents, we carefully consider the logistics of any potential delays. We believe that such delays may not benefit everyone and could disrupt the school day. Therefore, if APS announces a delay (district-wide), we will opt to cancel school for the day. We will keep our families informed by posting updates on our social media channels and sending messages through School Messenger. Keep in mind that PAPA is not included in East Mountain Schools. If a student lives within the boundaries of another district, parents have the discretion to follow that district’s weather-related schedule changes. Parents need to call the attendance line (830-3128 ext. 5) to report a weather-related absence by 9:00 a.m., and the student must make up all missed work.

Tickets are also on sale for the Spring Dance Concert 2025 at National Hispanic Cultural Center. Make sure your family, friends, and fans buy theirs before they’re all gone! Tickets for the Senior Showcase will be on sale in mid-March. Stay tuned!
Hello PAPA Middle Schoolers! We have a new lunch group called the “Bamboo Buddies” that will be happening every Monday and Tuesday in Ms. Padilla’s office during Middle School lunch. This is a place to eat, chat, relax, play games, and make new friends. So bring your lunch, and we may have some snacks for you as well. See you there!
The state Representatives and Legislatures will be making decisions about money allocated to their districts for capital improvements. Starting today, we will be enjoying lunch outside and soaking up some vitamin D! After you eat, get your blood flowing by walking, throwing a football, shooting baskets, or even dancing. Remember, whenever the temperature is above 40°F, we’ll be eating lunch outside. Dress accordingly and make the most of the fresh air!

PAPA’s literary journal, The Princess Jeanne Review, is now accepting submissions for our first issue! We’re looking for original poetry, short stories, essays, scripts, and visual art from students in all grades. If you have a story to tell, artwork to share, or words that inspire, submit your work through the QR code found around school or contact Mr. Sisneros for more information. Don’t miss this chance to have your work published and celebrated! Be bold. Be creative. Be published!
Students not enrolled in dance class this year will be receiving a permission slip from their history teacher. Please sign and return as soon as possible. All students will be attending the National Hispanic Cultural Center on March 5th. Students will need to be dropped off at the NHCC by 8:30 am and picked up at 3:30 pm.
Students and staff, it is all of our responsibility to keep our campus clean and safe. It is very important that we all help. If you see something unsafe your job is to report it to an adult. Do not prop open our security gates. All gates need to be secured. Someone has been leaving bricks to prop open gates. This compromises the security of our school, especially in the event of an emergency. Do not prop open gates. Thank you.
Students as part of the National School Lunch Program, and to get a free lunch you must have 3 items on your tray. Make sure that you are grabbing a fruit or vegetable before you punch in your number.

Staff, students, or community members can nominate students for this award. A committee assigned by the administration will determine the award recipients. In addition to serving as a student ambassador in at least one PAPA event during the school year, the recipient of this award must be a student in good academic and behavioral standing (academic standing based on New Mexico Activity Association guidelines and behavioral standing with no discipline referrals during the current year). It will be presented to a student or students who consistently demonstrate qualities of compassion for school peers and members of the greater community. The recipient(s) must have provided unpaid service during the current school year for at least (2) two organizations not affiliated with the school. Community service is not limited to performing arts, although it is highly encouraged. Award recipient(s) must also attend at least one community-based workshop, conference or event promoting social justice, diversity, safety, non-violence, or healthy habits.
8th lite are times when teachers can collaborate together in professional learning communities, on these days there are no 8th period classes except for study skills. If you are enrolled in an 8th period class and cannot get picked up after 7th period at 3:18, NHS will host a study hall in the cafe. 8th period lite days are: 2/26, 3/26, 4/30.
5•7•10 RULE
● Five unexcused absences: When a child has accumulated five unexcused absences, school personnel will arrange a meeting at the school with the parent or legal guardian to discuss the unexcused absences. A plan to improve attendance will be developed and implemented.
● Seven unexcused absences: When a child has accumulated seven unexcused absences, school personnel will arrange a second meeting at the school with the parent or legal guardian to review the attendance plan and discuss the impact of truancy on the future of the child. At this time, the child may enter into an attendance contract requiring him or her to attend school regularly or other consequences may be applied (i.e., removal from PAPA to attend the child’s home school in the case of transportation issues).
● Ten unexcused absences: If a student has accumulated an equivalent of ten or more unexcused absences within a school year, the parent shall be given written notice by personal service or certified mail that the student is habitually truant and is not in compliance with the Compulsory Attendance School Law. At that time, the student shall be reported to the probation services office of the judicial district where the student resides for an investigation as to whether the student shall be considered to be a neglected child or a child in a family in need of services because of habitual truancy.
